About Estella Banks

Hi, I’m Estella. I’m a mixed media artist, an artistic foam stamp and stencil designer, an Adult Educator with more than twenty years of experience, and the founder of Planet Creative Studios.
My creative journey started when I was eight years old, sitting beside my grandmother as she patiently showed me how to sew by hand. I stitched a little dress for one of my dolls, and when I finished, I remember holding it up and thinking with so much pride, “I made this.” That moment lit a spark in me. Since then, I have wandered through many creative adventures: sewing, costume making, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, ceramics, scrapbooking, paper crafts, card making, gel printing, collage, and eventually designing my own stencils. For seventeen years I worked as a demonstrator for a well-known rubber stamp company, sharing techniques with others and inspiring them to explore what was possible with ink, stamps, and paper. One of my dreams was to see my own designs out in the world, and I am grateful that I now create stencils and foam stamps in partnership with PM Artist Studio.
Growing up, my family moved often as my father’s work with the federal government took us around the world. I attended nine different schools before graduating high school in Japan as one of twelve students in my class. Those experiences shaped my love for diversity, opened my eyes to new ways of seeing, and deepened my belief that creativity connects us across cultures.
Another part of my story is my experience as a neurodivergent learner. Discovering this about myself later in life was an incredible relief because it showed me I was not broken, just wired differently. That difference has always been one of my greatest strengths. It allows me to notice patterns, break down complex ideas into clear and simple steps, and make creative exploration more accessible for others.
Why do I create? Because it helps me breathe. Because every new technique is a challenge that brings joy when I master it. Because curiosity keeps me alive and learning. Because making something with my hands, whether it is a piece of art, a journal page, or a handmade gift, gives me a deep sense of accomplishment that no one can take away. Most of all, I create because art is a way to connect with myself and with others.
At Planet Creative Studios, my mission is to inspire, nurture, share, and help you unlock your own creativity through creative exploration. I believe we are all beautifully imperfect masterpieces, and that when we give ourselves permission to create, we rediscover our joy, our resilience, and our power.
If you have ever felt too busy, too overwhelmed, or convinced that you are not creative, I want you to know there is a place for you here. This is a supportive, playful, and welcoming space where you can explore freely, try new ideas, and celebrate your creative wins, big or small.
Let’s create meaningful moments together.
