I’ve had a hole in my jeans in the right hip area for a long time that I have patched before and the patch disappeared in the wash (maybe it’s with the missing socks)!
Since then, I’ve been thinking about ways to cover the hole in a creative way. This weekend I was remembered a video I had seen with various creative ways to mend clothes. I vaguely remembered seeing a method for mending a hole that looked like a spider web.I searched and searched, but as the Internet would have it, the location of the video from my memory had become a buried treasure!
After searching related search terms, I finally found the name of the embroidery stitch for which I had been looking: the whipped or ribbed spider web stitch. I found a couple of great videos (this was my personal favorite) and finally on Sunday evening, I sat down to cover that hole!

The original hole. It started small, but you know how it goes with holes in jeans…
I did a running stitch around the perimeter of the hole.
Then I did a buttonhole stitch to reinforce the edges.
Then I started by creating the spokes.

At this point I decided that I needed to UNDO a good portion of my progress because I had attempted to anchor the stitches as I neared the edges. It didn’t look as nice as I would have liked, so I took out several rounds and continued from there.
The final product. The variegated embroidery thread created an ombre effect in the web.
Viola! A decorative Patch Job!
